:: The Internet of Things ::

Reading and analyzing this has help me so much!
The point.........is not so much to have one scenario that "gets it right" as to have a set of scenarios that illuminate the major forces driving the systems, their interrelationships and the critical uncertainties. The users can then sharpen their focus on a key enviorment mental systems aided by new concepts and a richer language systems through which they exchange ideas and data.

next step

hey guys...

so...heres the story for the next report just to make sure we are all on the same page...

we need to develop both stories for the POD's as well as a sort of appendix, or "disclosure" for each of these stories
story:
- should be either third, or frist person
- human-centric stories but can be from any perspective
- start with POD, develop story, we will reconvene at a latter date and selec stories
- they should be only a few hundre words long, or a long paragraph...no longer!!!...if anything, start big and edit down

disclosure:
- we will do these one by one with each story when we meet next
- we will select key points, themes, provocations and stimulants
- from there we will develop triggers, or things that make the previous happen
- next we develop PSE opportunities along with crystallized solutions
- all this should answer the question: What does the IOT mean to people and how does it affect/create behaviours, groups/clans, trends, lingo/language and communication ?

*** the next meeting will be next friday 31st, at 11 where we will each have a minimum of 15 stories developed each for various POD's, some pod's will yeild fewer stories than others, but try not to write more than 2 stories for one pod.

the stories do not need to be "finished" per say but they should be refined, with plot, direction, actions, characters etc... this shouldnt be hard...just need to be in a creative state of mind...try to go way out there with these and really get imaginative...these aren't about technology so try not to mention it because it doesnt matter that much...its more about the people and they ways we will feel, interact, think....etc

let me know if you got this and whether friday is good or not...

group leader,

terry

Ubiquitously

Evidently, the Japanese thought about ubiquitious learning long before we did. This is an embarassment. Why weren't we on top of that shit, IOT? LET'S LEARNING!!!

Oh but here's the cool thing Ricky pointed out. Check out the back. It's got a semacode!

Catch up

Wow.. none of us have posted here nearly as often as we used to!

I told Alex that this semester inparticular we have so many group projects and group blogs, it's suffocating. I personally haven't blogged in weeks, but we've spent entire afternoons and evenings together in person, which have been incredibly productive. Terry and I call each other on a regular basis and we meet on weekends - so to me, it's like 'what is there left toblog?' when I can just MSN, call, or email, or meet in person?

Anyway, what we did miss when we talked in person was links. Let's get this thing going again!
Are we meeting Saturday for lunch? Let's have a picnic!

Hello:
I just want to give a super high five to our team leader Terry!!!!!!! excellent people skills T.
To our team members thank you, and is a pleasure working with you.
karen.
hey guys...

the next step is user scenarios, first person stories that build off of the pod's we developed in the last report. for thursday, start making notes and develop some ideas, or plots, for stories. remember, all these are human-centric, so no stories from the perspective of a nano-bot. these stories should convey the deep emotional and behavioural aspects of interactions with the future IOT. they should convey subjects such as community, mythology, sub-cultures, values, moral/ethics, interactions, thoughs etc...all the good stuff you get in a novel that allows you to paint a mental picture. dont start writing stories yet, just come in with ideas a skeletons of stories. we will have a quick meeting following class to further discuss the next report. cool?

High Fives all around

hello my fellow group members...

Great work over the past few days! You guys have truly put forth a remarkable effort and we have really acheived some great things. As the team leader, I honestly say I couldnt wish for a harder working or balanced team. I appreaciate it...and reap the benefits of getting things done ahead of schedule because the report is on the brink of completion and Priscilla, our presentation master, has our presentation borderline completed. We are laughing now. Aren't you glad we had those meetings on thursday and saturday? Now we can kick our feet up while everyone else is rushing to get things done. I am confident this report will take our last report to the next level. Again, great work guys and thank you for the effort...and thank yourselves. See you on 5.

Fearless group leader, Terry

PS. I have determined that we must have codenames if we are to progress and conquer the world...ahem...I mean... continue with the last report. This is how you will accomplish this task...plug the following information into the equation.

Middle Name + Street Name = Code Name

I will be henceforth be known as...Christian L. Hollywell, or Christian L. Niagra when I am in TO.....haha.....

..........................

this message will self-destruct in.....3......2......1........
Tuesday Morning (Presentation Day -2 days)
We're on the right track guys

So far we've accomplished:
1) All Signals + Amplifications in their appropriate catagories (post-its)
2) Points of Departure (post-its)
3) A rough skeleton of the report

Here's what's left to do
1) Editing the report. There should be archetypes clear in each Signal Amp
2) Point of Departure previews. There should be a one liner after each POD giving a 'preview' of what it is
3) Process. Mike & Eddy & Karen took pictures of our brainstorming sessions. Can all of you email Terry and myself (to include in small + short process book and the presentation)
4) Presentation. This will be done by myself tomorrow night. I've got all the tools set up, I just need some text to put in.

Hang in there IOT TEAM!

:: The Internet of Things ::

I came across this article in the globe and mail. It is about a website that wants to educate americans about canadians. to dispell the myths or negative stereotypes. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20060307.wmyths0307/BNStory/Technology/home

I feel that the signal in this the dispelling of negative things through education or information. amplifing this with IOT could it reduce racsim, or encourgae people to talk to one another, to bring back more community.

racism is lack of information and fear. people put up walls up to protect themselves.

Tim Falnnery Article

I read an article in the Globe and Mail today by Author Tim Flannery who just released a book The Weather Makers: How We Are Changing The Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth. Although it isn’t totally related to IOT, It does put some things into my mind that I thought I would share. The article states that we are at the brink of destruction and without a massive shift in mentality we will not really exist much longer. He offers solution to this problem that I think seem extreme now but will be common practice in a few years. He believes that each individual consumer has the power to start this change because industry and government will only act to please the people.

The point that caught me most was that if green technologies are put in the hands of the majority of the population that change can happen. By creating demand prices will only drop and the technology will only spread further. I couldn’t help but see the parallels between the green technologies and those involved in the IOT. One point Flannery points out is that not only is the environment at a tipping point but the economy is as well. He compares the near future state of the energy sector to that of the Internet. By dispersing the technology the power is in the hands of the user and big businesses and energy suppliers will be cut out of the loop. This is very much similar to what Alex was discussing on the de-centralized grid communication possibilities. I wonder what role will these companies play in the future? If you have seen the Enron documentary you know how much power these energy business hold. Are they able to shift? Who will be the new “big business” when the people are empowered?
